GDF, MYO register wins in GCA/NBS limited-overs competition

As the Georgetown Cricket Association/ New Building Society, second-division 40-over tournament continued on Sunday, Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) registered wins.

At Camp Ayanganna, the visitors, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) won the toss and inserted the hosts who made 215 for the loss of nine wickets from their 40 overs. GCC were then restricted to 152 in 28.2 overs.

A half-century from Kurt Lovell steadied GDF’s innings as he stroked two sixes and five fours during his 70-ball 58.

Lovell shared in an 80-run stand for the fourth-wicket with Quacy McPherson who made 36 from 40 balls, hitting three sixes and a four.

Zameer Nazeer chipped in with 29 while sharing a 50-run opening stand with Leon Andrews (15). Keith Simpson made 29 while Delshawn McDonald made 16.

Thaddeus Lovell bagged 3-19 while Devon Lord, Krsna Singh and Khemraj Jaikaran took two wickets each.

GCC’s chase started positively with Ryan Hemraj hitting six fours and a six before he was trapped leg before wicket to Andrews (3-19) for 49.

He added 52 for the first wicket with Shahid Vieira (16) but the other batsmen struggled to build momentum. Rahul Singh (18), Lovell (14), Lord (10) and Renaldo Phillips (10) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Meanwhile, MYO defeated Sophia by six wickets. Winning the toss at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary, Sophia opted to bat and managed 137 all out in 23 overs. MYO only needed 19.3 overs to reach 141 for four.

Morris rocked Sophia’s batting order, claiming 5-30 while Jonathan Rampersaud and Sagar Hatiramani took two wickets each. Extras had the best aggregate with 28 while with the bat, number 10 batsman, Jonathan Nicols top scored with 27 not out. Malcolm Morris made 22 while Kishan Da Silva and Shaquil King made 18 each.

MYO skipper, Omesh Daniram top scored with 42, hitting three fours and two sixes. He added 81 for the fourth wicket with Zeynul Ramsammy who made 37 from 59 balls. Ershaad Ali chipped in with 29 while Sophia did not help themselves by gifting 25 extras. Da Silva took 2-39.
