A 33-year-old man was on Wednesday remanded to prison when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaccs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magis-trate’s Court to answer a charge of attempted murder.

It is alleged that on 6th May, 2023, at 1st Street Albertown, Georgetown, at around 06:30 hrs, Blair Haynes attempted to murder Daniel Mikebell. According to reports, the virtual complainant (VC) was standing in front of his apartment talking to a woman when the accused exited his apartment and asked both of them to “mute”. The VC refused and the accused reportedly went into his apartment, armed himself with a cutlass and returned to where the VC and his friend where talking.

The accused reportedly dealt the VC one chop to the chest and as a result he fell to the ground. An ambulance was summoned and he was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

When Chief Magistrate asked the defendant if he had anything to say for himself, he replied, “The police prosecutor is making up false allegation. The man attacked me first. It was his cutlass and I overpower him and take it away.”

The police prosecutor objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offence and for the fact that the VC is still hospitalized. Bail was refused.

The accused will next appear in court on 31st, May, 2023.
