Pensions move another example of a caring administration

Dear Editor,

The recent instruction by President Irfaan Ali to unify the payment dates for Old Age and NIS pensions is a commendable move. For one, it is much more convenient for pensioners, many of whom were forced to show up at the Post Offices multiple times to collect their pensions.

This is yet another example of a caring administration.

The payment of pensions to our senior pensioners on a timely and more predictable manner is a welcome development and speaks to the high regard in which our elderly is held by the current PPP/C administration.

This development, when taken together with recent increases and the several other benefits granted to pensioners such as water and electricity subsidies will go a far way in enhancing the quality of life of our senior citizens. At a more fundamental level, it is also indicative of a listening ear rendered by the current administration to the concerns and welfare of the Guyanese people.

A society, it is said, is measured by how it treats with its children and the elderly. On both counts, the PPP/C administration has been doing a commendable job.

Yours faithfully,

Hydar Ally
