Man charged with armed robbery at Riverview, discharging loaded firearm

Twenty-eight-year-old Akeem Bourne (address not stated), and 28-year-old Michael Cumber-batch of Lot 2 Rasville, Ruimveldt, Georgetown, yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magis-trate’s Court before Acting Chief Magis-trate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus to answer to robbery charges.

It is alleged that on June 27, at Riverview Ruimveldt, George-town, while in the company of each other and armed with a firearm, they robbed Tyron DeGrutt of one Samsung cellphone valued $25,000 and Dillon McRae of a Samsung Galaxy cellphone valued $35,000.

It is also alleged that on June 27, at Riverview, Ruim-veldt, Georgetown, Bourne discharged a loaded firearm at Travis Farley, with the intent to disfigure or to cause him grievous bodily harm.

It is further alleged that on June 28, at Norton and Chapel streets, Lodge, Georgetown, Bourne had in his possession a 9mm pistol along with three matching rounds without being the holder of a firearm licence.

Both accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The police prosecutor strongly objected to bail for Akeem Bourne. He told the court that Bourne is known to the police and is a serial offender.

Bail was refused and the defendants were remanded to prison until July 26.
