Santa Rosa was crowned the Region #1 winner, while Mahaicony Technical Institute captured the Region #5 title when the Digicel Schools Football Championship continued yesterday.

In the Region #1 section, Santa Rosa defeated Port Kaituma 2-1 at the Mabaruma ground.

Rockwell Harris gave Santa Rosa the perfect start as he found the back of the net in the second minute. Lurking inside the penalty box, Harris slotted into the back of the net after receiving a flat cross from the right of the field.

Roy Van Sluytman doubled the lead in the ninth minute with a right-footed volley with the side of his boot into the lower left corner, after receiving a cross from a right-sided corner kick.

Anthony Sears eventually pulled one back for Port Kaituma in the 22nd minute, racing onto a lobbed through pass inside the right of the area, before rifling his effort into the back of the net. The score remained unchanged heading to the halftime interval.

Santa Rosa was reduced to 10 players in the 60th minute after Nelon Lucas was issued a red card following a wild challenge on a defender. However, Port Kaituma failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage, with the most noteworthy moment occurring in the 67th minute for Tirell Jacobs, who struck the crossbar with a free-kick from outside the right of the penalty box.

Santa Rosa would eventually hold out in the remaining minutes to secure the win and the title.

Meanwhile, Mahaicony Technical Institute dismissed Belladrum 3-0. Odel Mingo and Jemo Williams scored in the 60th and 69th minute respectively whilst an own goal in the 41st minute added to the score.

Also, Berbice Educational Institute downed Tutorial 3-1 in the Region #6 section at the Scott’s School ground. Floyd Chester, Colisi Scipio, and T’Jon Reid netted in the fifth, eighth, and 16th minute apiece. For the loser, Dane Singh scored in the 22nd minute.
