Lamaha St man charged with murdering neighbour

George Moses of Lot 18 Lamaha Street, Newtown, Kitty, Georgetown yesterday appeared virtually via Zoom at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus where he was charged with the capitol offence of murder.

It is alleged that on April 10, at Lot 18 Lamaha Street, Newtown Kitty, Georgetown, the defendant murdered Anthony Williams.

The court heard that the victim and the accused were known to each other. They both resided in a two-storey apartment at Lot 18 Lamaha Street, Newtown, Kitty, Georgetown.

Williams occupied the lower flat, while Moses occupied the upper flat. The two apparently had an ongoing problem, which would result in them constantly assaulting each other.

According to Police Corporal Nelson, on March 30, at about 18.30 hours, he was in front of the dwelling on Lamaha Street, when he overhead the two men arguing. He then saw them engaged in a scuffle in their yard, after which he saw Moses attack Williams with a knife saying “I gonna kill you and go lie down for you,” which caused him to intervene. The accused – Moses, dealt the victim – Williams, several stabs about his body, then threw the knife into the Lamaha Street canal.

Corporal Nelson cautioned and apprehended the accused and called 911 and a patrol later responded. Moses was placed into custody at the Kitty Police Station and Williams was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted as a patient. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

The accused gave an oral and written statement and was later charged for murder.

The police prosecutor objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offence and bail was refused.

Moses is expected to make his next court appearance on July 31 for statements.
