Dequan Pyle

The wanted bulletin followed a protest on Sunday by Pyle’s family over the inaction by the police in the matter. It is unclear why it took more than a month for the bulletin to be issued.

In Sunday, about 30 persons protested at Laing Avenue, with relatives and friends of Pyle demanding justice, criticizing the police and accusing them of dragging their feet.

A relative of Pyle told Stabroek News  that they were protesting because they had not received an update from the police since he was killed. The only information that was related to the family was that two suspects were held but released from police custody after 72 hours.

Pyle was killed on 17th June, 2023.

According to the police report, Pyle woke up and saw his sister involved in a fight with some women and he attempted to separate them. It was alleged that the women’s partners then intervened and one man, who was armed with a length of wood, dealt Pyle a blow to the back of his head. He fell to the ground motionless.

The perpetrator then dropped the wood and joined the others in pelting bottles and bricks at Pyle’s relatives before escaping. Pyle was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.

A nearby house that was later set ablaze was said to be the suspect’s.
