Taxi driver gets 56 months for robbing women at Providence

Quincy Barker, a 27-year-old taxi driver of Timehri who was arrested on the 21st July, 2023 in Region One for robbing two women at Providence has been sentenced to 56 months imprisonment.

Barker appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court on July 24th, 2023 where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to the police, on July 21st around 21:30 hours, a detective from the Acquero Police Station made contact with Barker who at the time was in the Kwebanna Village, Region One. Barker was told of the allegation and admitted to the offence of committing robbery under arms against two women (Maria and Sheyla Rodriquez) at Providence, East Bank Demerara on 8th July, 2023. He was cautioned and arrested.

The police said he was escorted to Regional Division Headquarters 4’B’ where in a video/audio interview that was conducted, Barker admitted to the offence but insisted that he used an ice pick. He denied using a firearm.
