Sophia resident remanded over armed robbery of bus vendor

Twenty-nine-year-old Patrick Goodluck, of Block R Sophia, appeared before Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday to answer to the charge of robbery under arms.

It is alleged that on July 12th 2023, while in the company of another, Goodluck robbed Dinesh Robindranauth of $130,000 and one Samsung cellular phone valued at 40,000. On the aforementioned date, it was said that the complainant drove his minibus into Block R North Sophia to ply his trade by selling products to a shopkeeper. After he completed his transaction and was heading back to his minibus, he was confronted by two men.

One, who was armed with a gun, told the complainant to hand over all the items in his possession while pointing the gun to his face. It was stated that they struck Robindranauth in his head causing him to suffer injuries. The court heard that the accused then went to the bus and took $110,000 in cash that was in the glove compartment of the minibus. He also took $20,000 from the victim’s pants pocket along with his Samsung cellphone valued at $40,000. The attacker and his accomplice then escaped.

Goodluck pleaded not guilty to the charge and bail was refused by the Magistrate. He was remanded to prison and will reappear at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on September 13 2023.
