Police are investigating a fatal accident at about 10.45 last night on the Montrose Public Road, East Coast Demerara, where two 19-year-olds, Michael Pierre and Daniel Durant, lost their lives.

The police said in a statement that the accident involved motor car #PAC 2396, owned and driven by Mahendra Nankishore, a 33-year-old of Success, ECD; motor car #PYY 9392, owned and driven by Michael Pierre, a 19-year-old of Lot 1102 Hope South, Enmore, and occupant Daniel Durant, a 19-year-old of Seaforth Street, Campbellville, Georgetown (both deceased); and motor car #PAC 734, owned and driven by John Moore, a 29-year-old of Blairmont, West Berbice, and occupant Renison Adams, a 26-year-old of Ithaca Village, WCB.

Enquiries disclosed that motor car #PYY 9392 was proceeding west along the southern carriageway at a fast rate, and while negotiating a right bend on the road, the driver (Michael Pierre) lost control of his vehicle. The car ended up on the northern carriageway and into the path of motor car #PAC 2396 and motor car #PAC 734, which were both proceeding in the opposite direction.

As a result of the collision, all three drivers and occupants were picked up at the accident scene by public-spirited citizens and conveyed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where the driver of motor car # PYY 9392 and the occupant were pronounced dead on arrival.
