Van Lange leads Guyana past Jamaica

Guyana’s U17 skipper Jonathan Van Lange top scored with a pugnacious innings of 41 as Guyana rebounded from their first round defeat to Barbados to defeat Jamaica by 29 runs in their second game of the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars U17 Super50 competition.

Playing at the National Cricket Centre, Couva, Trinidad and Tobago, the Guyana U17s were indebted to Van Lange’s 41,

Nicholas Shipersad’s 27 and opening batsman’s Kevin Kisten 18 as they reached 133 all out 43.3 overs.

Bowling for Jamaica, Demarco Scott took a five wicket haul ending with 5-11 while Dantae Clarke supported with 3-42, and Roshawn Mc Kenzie picked up 2-13.

In reply, the Jamaica U17s were dismissed for 104 in 24.2 overs.

Tyriek Bryan, 36, Scott, 27 and Brian Barnes 20, were the principal scorers as Gulcharan Chulai 5-24, Matthew Pottaya, 4-14 and Bruce Vincent, 1-19, bowled the Guyanese to their first win of the tournament.

At Gilbert Park, Barbados U19s defeated the Windward Islands by three wickets.

Batting first, the Windwards could only muster 123 all out in 43.2 overs to which Barbados replied with 125-7 33.1 overs.

Windwards, Kirt Murray had a fine all round performance making the top score of 41 while Devonte Mc Dowall chipped in with 25 and Edmund Morancie, 14.

For Barbados, Kyron King took 3-38 and Shaquan Belle 3-21. Akeem Mc Collin supported with 2-11.

In reply, the Barbados U19s were indebted to Gadson Bowens, 37, Jaden Webster, 21,

Joshua Branch, 14 and Belle who was not out on 10. Kirt Murray crowned a fine all-round display by taking 4-18 while Jelani Joseph 2-28, Kirtsen Murray 1-25 lent support.

At Inshan Ali Park, home team Trinidad and Tobago defeated the Leeward Islands by five wickets.

Batting first the Leewards posted 110 all out 33.4 overs with Deantre Drew top scoring with 22 and Eirate Richards making 13.

Hosea Pluck, Zaveek Toppin and Jevon Manners each contributed 10 runs.

Aaidan Racha took 4-11, Ishmael Ali, 3-13 while Alexander Chase and Aneal Rooplall each took a wicket.

In reply, Trinidad scored 115-5 off of 30. 3 overs.

Opener Luke Ali 40, Fareez Ali 20 not out Alvin Sonny 15 and Riyaad Mohammed 14, were the principal scorers while Ozan Williams 2-22, Manners 2-10 and T’Yanick Honore 1-9, were the wicket-takers.
