Parika Backdam residents complain about stray animals

Assistant Superintendent S. Harris, Sergeant Johnson, Sergeant Douglas and Lance Corporal Fordyce from Regional Police Division #3 on Monday spearheaded a community outreach at Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo.

The Police team met with residents who voiced several concerns, the major issue being stray animals destroying their cash crops.

Residents said the situation is frustrating as the animals are destroying their crops, and there seems to be no redress as the animals are allowed to stray, and no one is taking responsibility, a release from the police said.

The Police team assured the aggrieved residents that every effort would be made to have the matter addressed. The Police team tried to contact the cattle owners on Monday but this proved futile. Further checks will be made to ascertain the identity of the cattle owners and to warn them to restrain their animals.

The Police team also provided some crime-prevention tips to the residents and contact numbers for the Police Officer, Station Sergeant and Parika Station in case of emergency.

The release said that the residents lauded the Police team for the visit.
