Two arrested in Black Bush Polder over Suriname murder

Two men who were this week arrested in Black Bush Polder in connection to a murder committed in Paramaribo, Suriname last Friday have since been handed over to the Suriname authorities to face charges in that country.

Shawn Dwayne, also known as ‘Shortes’, 23, and Bhopendra Singh, 24, were arrested on Sunday at a residence belonging to Dwayne’s mother in Mibicuri, Black Bush Polder.

The two men were wanted in connection with a murder they allegedly committed on Friday August, 11, at Nieuw Amsterdam in Paramaribo.

The source relayed that the two who were being held at the Whim Police Station in Guyana were on Wednesday handed over to the authorities in Suriname as they continue their investigation.

Based on information gathered, on the day of the murder, the two men were reportedly drinking with friends in front of a home when a male whose name was given as Chris Persaud arrived on a bus to talk to one of the neighbours.

However,  an argument ensued between Persaud and the suspects.

As a result, Persaud ran back into the bus and returned with a cutlass which he then used to deal chops to Dwayne. However, Dwayne managed to overpower Persaud and then ran into the house where he picked up a knife and ran back outside.

After arriving back outside, Dwayne then allegedly dealt Persaud one stab to his chest after which another person then used the knife to cut Persaud’s throat.

A friend of Persaud’s came to his rescue at that point and drove him away. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed while receiving treatment that evening.
