Archibald, Abrams fail to qualify for 100m, 400m finals

Guyana’s two representatives at this year’s World Athletic Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Emmanuel Archibald and Aliyah Abrams, yesterday crashed out of their respective 100m and 400m events.

Competing in the second of two semi-final heats, Olympian Archibald placed sixth with a new personal best time of 10.13 seconds, eclipsing the 10.14 which was also his season’s best.

That heat was won by USA’s Christian Coleman in a time of 9.88 seconds with Great Britan’s Zharnel Hughes, formerly of Anguilla, also advancing to the 100m final in a time of 9.93s.

Archibald’s time places him 16th out of the 23 competitors in the men’s 100m.

Abrams, a two-time Olympian, competing in the fifth of six heats of the women’s 400m, placed fifth in a time of 51.44s.

The heat was won by Ireland’s Rhasidat Adeleke in 50.80s and the other two automatic qualifiers were Andrea Miklos of and Tereza Petrzilkova of the Czech Republic.

Abram’s time places her 26th out of the 48 competitors that participated in the 400m.
