The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs has made the decision to fire the Community Development Officer (CDO) of the South Pakaraimas District, Compton Peters, after complaints of financial irregularities.

In the letter seen by Stabroek News dated the 18th August, 2023, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ryan Toolsiram, informed Peters of his contract termination. The termination took effect on the day the letter was issued to Peters and was based on breaches of the public service rules and among other things

“Offence No. 35. Malpractice with fraudulent intentions. Please note that this decision is final and in accordance with the terms outlined in your employment contract”, the letter said.  The letter further stated that a copy would be forwarded to the Principal Assistant Secretary (Finance) for the necessary action to be taken.

At the moment, it is unclear whether or not legal action will be taken against Peters.

This comes after a July 31 meeting when toshaos informed the Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, via letter, of Peters’ conduct, as well as the conduct of another CDO attached to the Region Nine sub-region.
