Building Expo 2023 surveyor did not want to upset her supervisor with a negative report

Dear Editor,

I’m going to share with you my experience at the Building Expo 2023. I attended every day and thoroughly enjoyed it. The event is a great opportunity for family members to get together. People from all walks of life are present at this event. It’s one of the few events where people from different backgrounds and ethnicities come together. Not even cricket brought together people from different social, political and economic backgrounds like this event. I wish there was a Building Expo or something like a building expo every week so the citizenry could get a nice family atmosphere place to go and be educated and have fun. There was huge amount of people at 10 pm.

There are not many events that people can attend with a family atmosphere and also feel safe. The country needs more events like this. The entrance fee ($500) is reasonable for most people but not all, it is not reasonable for the poorest of the poor, which should be able to attend the events. Five hundred dollars today is big money for some citizens working for $4000 per day. My experience at the Building Expo $500 is not cheap. Editor, now I’m going to share with you an interesting experience that I had at the event.

I was approached by a staff from Ministry of Housing and Water to participate in a survey about the Building Expo. I didn’t want to because some surveyors don’t want to hear the truth. They want to be told only positive things about the event. However, I decided to do the survey. The surveyor asked me a lot of questions and when I gave a lot of dissatisfactions about the event, she immediately stopped me and didn’t want to continue the survey.  She said that she didn’t want to turn in a negative survey because she would upset her supervisor.

Here are two things I was dissatisfied with about the event. Not enough garbage cans, which is a common occurrence in this country. Air-conditioners in the tents were horrible. Editor, surveys in Guyana are not to get to the truth about an event. This is the reason why events in the country are often substandard. The organizers don’t want to hear the truth. They don’t want constructive feedback. Therefore, this country will always be a developing nation.

Sincerely,
