The construction of 30 eco-lodges at Diamond on the East Bank Demerara is in its final stages and is expected to be completed by September 7th to accommodate the influx of tourists coming for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023.

The project which began in June is being constructed under the Ministry of Housing by DuraVilla Homes, a local construction company, which is also working with consultants from a company in the United Arab Emirates. This project forms part of an initiative tailored to support 120 women in business and will see these women undertaking the management of the lodges.

According to the project manager, Joe Daniel, the lodges are aimed at offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience eco-friendly living without compromising on luxury. He further highlighted that the lodges are made of 100% local wood and material as well as a 100% Guyanese workforce.

“These lodges show Guyanese that we are still showcasing the known culture of using wood, while at the same time offering a luxurious taste. We have been working 24 hours, because we want to finish in time for CPL and even after that deadline is met we will have more progress to enhance the project”.

It will feature a well-appointed, wood-finished, fully furnished one-bedroom lodge inclusive of toilet and bath with air-conditioning systems and local touches curated to ensure both comfort and environmental stewardship for visitors. Guests can expect to be greeted by the serene ambiance of cultivated lilies and palm trees surrounding the lodge, where nature is expected to intertwine seamlessly with modern amenities.

There will be an on-site pool and a restaurant that will be offering 100% local cuisine with locally sourced ingredients.

Daniel shared his enthusiasm for being part of this project, as it resonates with his company’s vision to provide Guyanese citizens with a world-class hospitality experience while boosting the country’s tourism sector. He believes that the Urban Eco Lodges will attract both local and international visitors, contributing significantly to Guyana’s appeal as a top-tier destination.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of the vision of harnessing eco-tourism in Guyana, as the country is now expanding to boost its tourism sector. Most people do not know where Guyana is, thus our goal has been to create a haven that not only elevates the hospitality experience but also raises the bar for sustainable tourism. It’s a testament to our dedication that we’ve managed to commence construction in June and are on track to deliver 30 fully furnished eco lodges by September 7th.”

With the CPL 2023 just around the corner, visitors will be ideally situated just five minutes away from the stadium. This strategic location ensures that guests can experience the excitement of the cricket matches while indulging in the comfort and sustainability of the new-modern lodges while experiencing luxury at its finest.
