Garnett St vendor remanded over gun charge

Fifty-year-old Lawrence Pollard, a vendor of Lot 211 Garnett Street, Kitty, Georgetown, appeared yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly where he was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, September 6, at Garnett Street, Kitty, Georgetown, Pollard had in his possession five live rounds of ammunition without being a licensed firearm holder at the time.

It is also alleged that on the same date, the defendant had in his possession a .32 pistol without being a licensed firearm holder at the time.

The court heard that on the day in question at around 17.00 hours, a mobile patrol acting on information received, went to 211 Garnett Street, Kitty where they saw the defendant. They informed him of the allegation and conducted a search of his person. In the course of the search, ranks found a .32 pistol with a magazine containing five live rounds of matching ammunition in his pants pocket. The defendant then told the police ranks that he found the gun in the drain.

He was subsequently arrested and placed into custody

Bail was refused.

Pollard is scheduled to make his next court appearance on October 20.
