De Hoop smash-up claims four lives

Four persons including a schoolgirl died in a head-on collision in the area of De Hoop, Mahaica last evening.

According to the Deputy Commander of Region Five, Superintendent Lonsdale Withrite, the collision occurred around 6.30 pm yesterday. He confirmed that four persons including a child had died, while another person walked away with minor bruises.

Dead are Kellon Jones, Jason Rudder and his daughter, Jamella Rudder  and  Chris Gonsalves.

According to sources, a black Toyota Premio was heading to New Amsterdam when the other car, driven by Gonsalves crashed into them.

The Guyana Oil Company last night posted the following message about Jamella Rudder who had just gained entry to President’s College and was awarded by the company for her performance:

Dear Family of Jason Rudder and Jamella Rudder,

Our hearts are heavy with sorrow as we come to terms with the tragic loss of Jason Rudder and his beloved daughter, Jamella Rudder, in a devastating car accident, presumably as they were on their way home.

Just this morning, Jamella brightened our Guyoil family at the head office with her infectious joy, celebrating her entry into President’s College. We were all immensely proud of her recent achievements, including her remarkable performance in the NGSA.

In the wake of this profound tragedy, words can hardly express the depth of our sympathy. We share in your grief and want you to know that we are here to support you during this incredibly difficult time.

The memory of Jason’s beaming smile and the pride he felt for his daughter will forever remain in our hearts. Please accept our sincerest condolences, and may you find strength and solace in the love and memories you shared with them.

With heartfelt sympathy,
Guyoil

The number of road deaths has skyrocketed this year and the police appear not to have been able to make an impact on this.
