Residents of 3rd Avenue, Eccles, East Bank Demerara, are urgently calling on the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) to investigate a bar that has been constantly disturbing the tranquility of their residential neighbourhood. The disturbance, they say, persists daily, starting at 2 pm and extending into the late hours of the night, causing them great distress.

In a formal petition submitted to the GRA, several residents expressed their grievances. These include severe traffic congestion, distressing incidents of indecent exposure by bar patrons resorting to public areas, such as road corners and residents’ fences, to relieve themselves. Further, the residents have voiced their distress over the alarming sound of gunshots that erupt during bar brawls.

The residents of 3rd Avenue are also deeply concerned about the apparent inability of the Providence police to take action. They say they have consistently reported these disturbances and requested increased patrols, but their pleas have seemingly fallen on deaf ears.

Residents who are all signatories of the petition collectively lamented their futile attempts to reach out to the bar’s owner.

Among the most affected are drivers and children, who have complained of their inability to function optimally due to the constant disruption and lack of sleep caused by this ongoing nuisance.

The residents have made an impassioned plea for immediate action to President Irfaan Ali, Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn, Minister of Education Priya Manickchand, Minister of Human Services Dr Vindhya Persaud, and Commissioner of Police acting Clifton Hicken. They have also appealed to Commander of Division # 4 (b), Superintendent Mahendra Singh, to address this pressing issue with the utmost urgency.
