Ryan Boodhoo, a 27-year-old driver of Lot 3511 Block 8 Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), and driver of motorcar PMM 3473, was charged today with causing the death of Sursattie Prasad by dangerous driving.
The police said that Boodhoo appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him in relation to the fatal accident which occurred on Friday, 5th May 2023 at about 10:39 am on the Good Hope Public Road, EBE. The accident involved motor car PMM 3473 (driven by Boodhoo), motor van GAC 4554, minibus BAB 3861 and pedestrian, Prasad.
Boodhoo was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was placed on $300,000 bail.
The matter was adjourned for report and fixture on 2023/12/18.
The police had said that a car was going east when a van going west turned into its path to enter a gas station. The car swerved to avoid a collision but instead hit Prasad and ended up in a drainage canal.
Prasad was rushed to the Leonora Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
