Guyhoc miner charged with murder of Leopold St peacemaker

Twenty-five-year-old Akeem Dazzel, a miner, of Lot 27 Guyhoc, Tucville, Georgetown, appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate (ag) Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with the capital offence of murder.

He was not required to enter a plea.

It is alleged that on August 12, at Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, Dazzel murdered Noel Fraser.

The particulars of this offence stated that Fraser and Dazzel are known to each other. On Saturday, August 12, at about 7.30 am, Dazzel’s mother telephoned him to tell him that some men had verbally abused her. At about 7:45 am, Dazzel arrived on a motorcycle then drew what appeared to be a firearm from his waist and rushed into the yard at Lot 101 Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust. Fraser observed the firearm in Dazzel’s hand, approached him, and held on to it in an attempt to pacify him. Dazzel responded by pulling out a knife from a bag that was around his neck and dealt Fraser a single stab to his chest. The assailant then remounted his motorcycle and fled the scene. Fraser was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injury while being treated.

Fraser was subsequently contacted and arrested for murder.

He is expected to make his next court appearance on October 16 for disclosure.
