Low voltage in northern part of Kitty

Dear Editor,

The northern part of Kitty, the only part I can confidently speak of, has been experiencing low voltage and fluctuations in electricity for months. Approximately a month ago, I frustratingly called the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) company to make a report about the issue. After an initial visit by their employees and more complaints from me, four teams visited my house within the same day. The problem remains.

The instability of a vital commodity like electricity does not bode well for those who want to establish a successful business and for foreigners who are thinking of investing here. Furthermore, it is unsettling for those in residential properties and could damage expensive and inexpensive appliances and equipment. The paradox in this scenario is that the public is constantly hearing from within our borders and worldwide, that we are one of the largest oil producing nations. One would equate oil with a fuel source which drives our utilities and is necessary in most other spheres of manufacturing and economic development.

It behoves me to finally seek recourse through this medium for improvement in this incongruous and unacceptable situation.

Yours sincerely,

Conrad Barrow
