A 70-year-old man died in an accident on the Agricola Public Road, East Bank Demerara yesterday morning. The driver is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
Dead is Hardat Harriram of Lot 45 Old Road Eccles, East Bank Demerara.
Police say the accident occurred at around 5. 20 am on the Agricola Public Road. It involved an SUV, PJJ 9372, driven by Francis Kam, 38, of Annandale, East Coast Demerara and the now-deceased Harriram.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the SUV was proceeding south on the Agricola public road while Harriram was pushing a bicycle and crossing the same road from west to east. As he proceeded to cross, he ended up in the path of the SUV. The impact flung him into the air and he landed on the roadway with injuries about his body.
Emergency medical technicians were summoned and on arrival, found Harriram lying in an unconscious condition. After an examination, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
