NA road rage driver who struck cop slapped with twelve charges

Prince Sinclair, who was arrested on Wednesday after he allegedly drove into, injured, and used a series of expletives against Police Constable Daniel Fredricks in New Amsterdam, was yesterday slapped with twelve charges.

Sinclair, a 37-year-old resident of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, yesterday appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Renita Singh who read the twelve charges to him.

Sinclair was charged with three counts of dangerous driving on Wednesday, September, 27, at Main Street, Pitt Street, and Pope Street, New Amsterdam.

He was also charged with one count of behaving in a disorderly manner and one count of causing actual bodily harm to Constable Fredricks who was at the time performing traffic duties along Main Road, New Amsterdam.

Sinclair is also accused of driving motor car PLL 4242 and neglecting to stop when he was directed to do so by Constable Fredricks, that he drove motor car PLL 4242 without wearing his seatbelt, he drove motor car PLL 4242 and failed to have all parts and accessories of the vehicle maintained in such a condition that no danger is likely to be caused to other persons using the said road, he drove the motor car and stopped thirty feet from the corner of Pitt Street, New Amsterdam and that he drove the motor car with tint to the extent to obstruct the identification of the driver and occupants traveling in said vehicle.

The man who was represented by attorney at law, Tuanna Hardy pleaded not guilty to all twelve charges.

His attorney told the court that Sinclair’s vehicle was parked in front of a relative’s business along Main Street, New Amsterdam when he was asked to move the vehicle.

She also told the court that the family is ready to compensate the constable who also frequents the business location.

According to Hardy, Sinclair is expected to undergo surgery due to an illness as well.

He was placed on a total of $145,000 bail and was ordered to lodge his passport.

He will return to court on October 27, for report.

The Guyana Police Force in a statement had said that enquiries disclosed that Constable Fredricks was on patrol duty with the force’s motorcycle, CL 2610 along Main Street, New Amsterdam when he observed motorcar PLL 4242, which was parked within 30 feet of Shoe Lane Street and Main Street, obstructing the free flow of traffic. As such, Constable Fredricks approached Sinclair and told him of the offence committed.

The release said that the driver got angry and started to use a series of expletives at the cop. The driver then entered his car, drove it towards the police rank, and hit his right foot.

Constable Fredricks fell on the car bonnet, and the driver continued to drive along Main Street and then on to Republic Road.

Constable Fredricks was escorted to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who treated him for his injury and later sent him away.
