Doubtful there will be any improvement for Guyanese anytime soon

Dear Editor,

I’m a little confused as to whether it is VP Jagdeo who decides over the interest of Guyanese. He indicated that Guyana is not interested in joining OPEC recently. Are Guyanese in agreement with that? He cites the reason is because they (OPEC) puts a cap on the amount of oil to sell. That means he’s not telling the full story. Possibilities exist that OPEC will be able to monitor the amount of oil leaving Guyana and will be able to identify discrepancies by the oil companies. The recent fiasco involving the VP and the Natural Resources’ Ministry causes me to wonder if the VP is micromanaging Guyana and what’s the role of the various ministers when he’s speaking on behalf of them and making the decisions.

Editor, whilst this administration seems determined to attack and victimize anyone questioning their actions/decisions, their track record towards the wellbeing of the populace is an embarrassment, and despite the cries of the people, they continue ignoring the fact that despite their boasting, majority of the populace are finding it hard to survive. Schools have recently reopened, and even though they are boasting, it’s a disgrace. School buses are not working, officials are barking at teachers when they query if the system is in place, accommodations in some are not adequate, etc… Given the actions of this administration, I doubt there will be any improvement in the disgraceful situation Guyanese are living in anytime soon, because they prefer to see the people beg for rightfully what is theirs.

Sincerely,

Sahadeo Bates
