Woman dies after run over by army bus at Foulis

A 38-year-old woman of El Dorado Village, West Coast Berbice died yesterday morning after she was run over by a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) bus on the Foulis Public Road, West Coast Berbice.

The victim has been identified as Lavie Long.

Investigations have so far revealed that Long was standing in the middle of the Foulis public road when she was struck and killed by a GDF bus – DFB 1661- which was being driven by a 46-year-old sergeant attached to Camp Stephenson. He is believed to have been speeding when he collided with Long. As a result of the collision, she sustained injuries to her head and died on the spot.

The sergeant is currently in police custody at the Vigilance Police Station assisting with investigations. 

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and no trace of alcohol was detected. Police have also revealed that they are in possession of CCTV footage of the accident.

The victim’s body was transported to Bailey’s Funeral Home, West Coast Berbice, where it awaits a post mortem examination 

Meanwhile, a GDF press release stated that the army is cooperating with the Guyana Police Force in its investigation of the fatal accident and is taking the incident very seriously to ensure due process is followed. The GDF also expressed condolences to the family of the victim.
