`Bad deal PSA’ may be a blessing in disguise

Dear Editor,

It would be interesting to know what those who would ‘renegotiate’ the Guyana/ESSO & Partners Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) are willing to offer in return for a larger percentage of profits. So far I am yet to see any of them identify anything that would cause our partners to increase our share. For those who are fervently pushing ‘renegotiation,’ I suggest your argument would be better served if ‘bargaining chips’ are identified that can be used to bring ESSO et al. back to the table.

Editor, given Guyana’s history of nationalization, I suggest Guyanese be very careful with word and action when we deal with the massive foreign investment in the Stabroek Block. This ‘bad deal PSA’ may be a blessing in disguise as Guyana has been prioritized over other oil reservoirs for development. A reminder that billions are invested for profit, not charity, is in order as we strive to escape our (failed) socialist upbringing.

Sincerely,

Robin Singh
