Two Berbice police under close arrest over corrupt transaction

Commander of Region Six, Shivpersaud Bacchus yesterday confirmed that two lawmen in Region Six are under close arrest over an alleged corrupt transaction.

According to information gathered, the incident happened in the Springlands, Upper Corentyne district. Sources close to the investigation yesterday told Stabroek News that the men stopped a businesswoman during a roadblock and discovered that she had in her possession a large sum of foreign currency.

It is alleged that the policemen demanded a portion of the money the woman had in her possession to be split between the two before they allowed her to leave the location.

A reliable source told this newspaper that it is being claimed that the men received around $10,000 euros which is about $2.2m.
