Mexico trade team on visit, visa waiver raised

Prime Minister Mark Phillips, who is performing the functions of President, met with a visiting Mexican trade delegation, led by the Mexican Ambassador to Guyana, Mauricio Vizcaíno Crespo yesterday afternoon at the Office of the Prime Minister on Camp Street.

During the meeting,  Phillips outlined the Government’s vision for Guyana, emphasising the diversification of traditional sectors on the foundation of an economy supported by the resources from oil and gas,  a release from the Office of the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister  reiterated Guyana’s willingness to collaborate with investors across numerous areas of development, including through education and infrastructure.

He extended an invitation to the investors while stressing the crucial role of the private sector in the country’s development.

The release said that the discussions also focused on strengthening bilateral ties between Guyana and Mexico, including the consideration of a visa waiver programme. This programme aims to increase people-to-people interactions and foster expanded relations between the two nations.

The visiting investors also expressed an interest in investing in several corporate social responsibility projects, with the aim of bolstering bilateral relations, the release added.

The delegation’s visit to Guyana is part of a five-day mission dedicated to engaging in ministerial and business-to-business meetings with the local private sector. These discussions aim to create investment opportunities across various sectors, including construction.
