Region 10 police at seminar on DNA sampling, crime scene management

Experts from India were among those who participated in  a recent seminar with ranks from the Regional Division 10 of the Guyana Police Force on matters like crime scene management and DNA sampling.

A release from the police force said that personnel from the Guyana Forensic Science Laboratory (GFSL) and experts from India, along with Woman Corporal Amanda Jordan and Woman Constable Alicia Sampson from the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters (Crime Laboratory), participated in the seminar at the Mackenzie Police Station’s Recreation Hall.

Several topics were discussed, including:  ethics in crime scene management, first response on the crime scene, sample collection, buccal swabbing, DNA sampling and testing for gunshot residue.

The release said that there were about forty Police ranks, twenty Community Policing Group members and one Neighbourhood Police in attendance.

Attorney General Anil Nandlall SC recently announced that four forensic experts from India would be working with GFSL.

According to the Attorney General, these experts come from diverse backgrounds in forensic science, with extensive experience in areas such as DNA analysis, ballistics, trace evidence analysis, and digital forensics. Their contributions are expected to provide invaluable insight and practical knowledge to students and the police force.
