Six members of the Guyana Police Force along with a logistics officer from Ministry of Home Affairs have been granted a one-week scholarship in India under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme, according to a release yesterday from the Indian High Commission in Georgetown.
The ITEC Programme, it was explained, are short-term courses at prestigious institutions of India to selected partner countries across the world and are available for all eligible Guyanese, not just officers of the Police and Defence forces. It covers all expenses related to the training and provides the trainees with a return air ticket, accommodation charges, tuition fee, living expenses, medical expenses, and external and internal tours as per the course curriculum.
The release named the selectees as: Police Constable Onika Samaroo, of Georgetown; Lance Corporal Michael Hinds, of West Bank Demerara; Police Sergeant Marsha Pereira, of East Bank Demerara; Police Constable Jamal Fowler, of East Bank Demerara; Police Sergeant Osbert Paul, of Corentyne; Police Constable Everette James, of East Coast Demerara; and from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Delroy O’Neal of East Bank Demerara.
The seven recipients above will be travelling to India to commence a 5-day programme in Infrastructure for Electric Vehicle (EV) Deployment starting on Monday November 6, at the NTPC School Of Business in Uttar Pradesh.
Prior to departing, few of the scholarship recipients met with the Head of Chancery of the High Commission, Mukesh Kaushik, who wished them the best and briefed them on the course, and advised them on the details and logistics of the training programmes. During the meeting, the officers thanked the High Commission and Government of India, the release added.
