Police ranks on patrol duty in Sheet Anchor village in East Canje, Berbice, at about 17:00 hrs yesterday, observed a silver-coloured motorcar (PNN 5837) driven by a self-employed man of Whim Village, who was acting suspiciously.

The Police ranks stopped the car and questioned the driver as to if he had anything illegal in the vehicle. The driver said no.

The ranks proceeded to search the vehicle, where several boxes of squibs and firecrackers were found in the trunk. The driver, when questioned for a second time by the Police, claimed ownership of the items. He was arrested and taken to the Central Police Station, where he was later released on $20,000 station bail.

The seized items were photographed and lodged.
