Twenty-eight-year-old Clifford Veira of Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, appeared yesterday before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.

It was alleged that on November 6, while at Middle Road, La Penitence, he maliciously assaulted 19-year-old Ryan Cameron by hitting him behind his head with a piece of wood which resulted in Cameron suffering injuries about his face.

The prosecutor told the court that Viera is well known to the courts appearing in July of this year before Magistrate Rhondel Weever charged with using abusive language and assault. The prosecutor also expressed concern for the safety of Cameron since both the defendant and complainant live in the same yard

Veira’s demeanour prompted the magistrate to ask if he had ever sought a mental evaluation, however, Veira vehemently professed that he was of sound mind.

The magistrate refused bail and Viera was remanded to prison.

The matter has been adjourned to November 28 for statements.
