Taxi driver charged with theft of gold chain

A taxi driver appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday where he was charged with larceny.

It was alleged that on November 6, while on Croal Street in George-town, Gregory Everson, a taxi driver, robbed Abel Smith of one gold chain valued $65,000.

The prosecution objected to bail based on the value of the item taken, along with the fact that Everson, who was once known as Gregory House, had previous brushes with the law.

However, Everson told the magistrate that his last conviction was 15 years ago and implored the court to believe that he no longer lives the life that he is being accused of. He emphasised that he is just a taxi driver in and around the city.

As such he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The magistrate refused bail and the matter was adjourned to January 19, 2024.
