Broad Street and Sparta Boss clinched comfortable wins when the 2nd edition of the ‘East Bank vs. the Rest’ street-ball championship commenced on Friday night at the Mocha Arcadia Basketball Tarmac.
Broad Street returned to the street-ball circuit with aplomb following a 4-2 win over the formidable Team Cruel. Kevin Griffith recorded a hat-trick in the sixth, ninth, and 15th minutes, while Akeem Sam etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 19th minute. For the losers, Jerome Harrigon and Roydon Chapman scored in the third and 11th minutes, respectively.
Similarly, Sparta Boss dismissed Xtra Mature 3-1. Jeremiah Softleigh bagged a brace in the seventh and ninth minutes, while Stephon Jupiter found the back of the net in the ninth minute. On target in the loss was Kester Doris in the 13th minute.
Meanwhile, Agricola battled past Family 1-0. Jermaine Bilaal made his presence felt in the 10th minute. Likewise, the Taliban edged the Ballerz Empire 1-0. Sunil Logan found the back of the net in the 15th minute.
The event will utilise an initial group stage format, with the participating 16 teams being divided into four groups of four. Group A contains Xtra Mature, Touches, Sparta Boss, and Stabroek Ballers, while Group B is made up of Lock Ah Scene, Five-0, Ballerz Empire, and Talibans.
On the other hand, group C consists of Gold is Money, Family, Agricola, and Team Cruel, while group D comprises Red Force, Unruly, Back Circle, and Bent Street.
