Turkeyen man charged with $8m armed robbery at Ogle

Twenty-six-year-old Kevin Linden Hopkinson, of Lot 345 Section ‘D’, Turkeyen, appeared before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s court yesterday where he was charged with armed robbery.

It is alleged that on November 18, at Ogle, East Coast Demerara, while in the company of others and armed with a handgun, Hopkinson robbed Rahul Dhing of $8,019,249 dollars cash belonging to Ashoka Buildcon Limited.

Hopkinson who plead not guilty to the offence, was represented by attorney-at-law Bernard DaSilva who made an application for bail citing the fact that his client had no previous antecedents.

The magistrate concurred and granted bail in the sum of $400,000 with the conditions that Hopkinson lodges his passport and reports to the Sparendaam Police Station once a week.

The matter was adjourned to January 16, 2024 for report and fixture.
