Gold is Money, North East La Penitence, and Minions recorded hard-fought wins when the Devon ‘Worm’ Charles Benefit Futsal tournament concluded last evening at the National Gymnas-ium,  Mandela Avenue.

West Ruimveldt powerhouse Gold is Money overcame a 1-4 deficit to defeat East Ruimveldt giant Back Circle 6-5. Also, the Stabroek Ballers downed the Future Stars 2-0. On the other hand, Minions squeaked past Leopold Street 1-0.

Charles, who is known in the futsal arena for his exploits with powerhouse Sparta Boss and the local club scene with Pele FC, passed away on November 16th. He was 28 years old. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the family.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Garrett, organiser of the event and current Sparta Boss manager, said, “This is being done because we want to remember Devon and recognise the fact that we have lost arguably the best goalkeeper in the Futsal arena, and by hosting a Futsal event in a farewell setting, it’s an honour to and for him from the Sparta family. We are also thankful to everyone who came out in support of this, because his family will receive the proceeds from the night.”
