Senior Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh, on behalf of President  Irfaan Ali, yesterday delivered over 300 solar home energy systems to residents of hinterland communities in Region Six, including the indigenous villages of Orealla and Siparuta.

A release from the Ministry of Finance said that the exercise forms part of Government’s commitment to providing electricity to 30,000 homes in hinterland and remote and off-grid communities of Guyana.

Each system is designed with a 160 Watts solar PV panel, a charge controller unit with a 48 Ampere-hour lithium ion battery to power two 9-watt LED lamps, and one 12-watt desk fan, and is also equipped with two USB ports for charging portable electronic devices.

Singh reassured the residents that no community is too remote or too far away, and that it is the Government’s commitment to include every single community and village in Guyana in its development plans and agenda.
