Two drivers held over death of Kuru Kururu man

Two drivers are currently in police custody assisting with the investigation of an accident which left Vishnudat Ramlan, a 52-year-old man of Lot 5 Kuru Kururu dead on Saturday evening at Hill Foot, Linden-Soesdyke Highway.

Police say the accident occurred at about 18:15 hours, and involved motor car PJJ 807, owned and driven by Jonathan Bailey, a 23-year-old of Kuru Kururu Soesdyke; motor car PMM 2014, owned and driven by Steffy Timmerman, a 27-year-old of Kuru Kururu (who’s not the holder of a driver’s license) and pedestrian Ramlan.

Enquiries disclosed that motor car PMM 2014 was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of the highway. It was alleged by the driver that she observed a male in the centre of her lane. On seeing the man, she pulled north but her right side wing mirror struck the pedestrian. Motor car PJJ 807 was also proceeding in the same direction but at a fast rate, and in his attempt to overtake motor car PMM 2014, also struck the pedestrian.

As a result, the pedestrian suffered injuries to his head and body. He was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body of the deceased was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
