32-year-old Kwesi Sumner who was arrested for the fatal stabbing of Raymond Cozier, a 16-year-old miner of Isseneru Village, Middle Mazaruni River on November 6th was charged with his murder on November 10th.
Sumner appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court where he was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison.
The stabbing incident occurred at around 1.30 am on November 6th at a bar located at Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni River.
Investigations revealed that the suspect and the victim were at a bar on Issano Landing consuming alcohol during which time the victim was dancing with a female. The suspect also expressed an interest to dance with the same female which resulted in an argument between the two. During the argument, the suspect brandished a knife and allegedly stabbed the victim in the upper right arm, then fled the scene.
Cozier was taken to the Issano Health Centre suffering severe blood loss where he succumbed whilst receiving medical attention.
