Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred at around 23:20 hrs last night on the Diamond Access Road, East Bank Demerara, which claimed the lives of two persons, motorcyclist Ashton Mc Curdy and his pillion rider Mark Green.

In a statement, police said that the accident involved motor lorry (GAF 2356) owned by Michael Monroe, a 28-year-old businessman of Diamond Housing Scheme and driven at the time by Hitram Basmattie, a 55-year-old truck driver from Timehri; and a motorcycle (CL9127) owned by Trevor Hunte, a 48-year-old security guard of Grove Housing Scheme and ridden at the time by Mc Curdy of Lot 243 Second Street, Grove, East Bank Demerara with pillion rider Green, a 31-year-old labourer of Lot 250 Nazarene Street, Grove Housing Scheme.

Enquiries disclosed that the lorry was proceeding west on the southern side of Diamond Access Road when the motorcycle was proceeding south on First Bridge Diamond, and failing to stop at the intersection.

This resulted in the motorcycle colliding with the right-side rear wheel of the lorry, causing both the rider and the pillion rider to fall and suffer injuries.
