Vishnu Persaud, a 21-year-old labourer of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara was jailed on Monday for eight months over the possession of ammunition.
The police say that Persaud was arrested on 2023-12-15 by a rank of the Vigilance Police Station and charged on 2023-12-18 for Possession of Ammunition without a Licence, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.
At about 11:00 hrs on Monday, the defendant appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, where the charge was read to him.
He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eight months imprisonment.
