GPL, union strike agreement on wages

The Guyana Power and Light Incorporated (GPL) and the National Association of Agricultural, Com-mercial and Industrial Employees (NAACIE) in the presence of the Chief Labour Officer, Dhaneshwar Deonarine signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Thursday morning to establish wages and other conditions of service for junior and senior staff employed by the company and represented by the Union.

A release from the Ministry of Labour said that the company and the union agreed that the current basic salary for all employees, shall increase by GPL agreeing to pay with NAACIE’s a 6.5% all-inclusive increase in wages and salaries for the year 2023.

Further, GPL also agreed, with the acceptance of NAACIE to a three percent in scale increase for the year 2024 which will be paid in January 2024.
