The semi-final round of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League Playoffs will commence this evening at the Eve Leary ground. Kingston.
This was confirmed by an official release from the federation yesterday.
According to the correspondence, the opening match at 18:00hrs will pit Slingerz of West Demerara against Best Group runner-up Winners Connection of Upper Demerara.
Interestingly, the two teams emanate from Group C. Slingerz ended up top of the standings with a perfect record following wins over Dominators [6-0] and Winners Connection [1-0].
Meanwhile, the Beacons of Georgetown (GT) will tackle Monedderlust of Berbice in the second semi-final at 20:00hrs. Monedderlust won group A with victories over the Beacons of Bartica (BAR) (4-1) and the Buxton Stars (3-0).
Similarly, Beacons (GT) defeated Tabatinga [5-3] of Rupununi and East Bank Demerara’s Herstelling [3-2] to secure the top spot in group B. The respective winners will progress to the final on January 6th, 2024, with the losers competing in the third-place playoff.
“The winning club will be promoted to the Elite League Season 6 next season, while the runner-up side will also be given a second chance to play in the Elite League when they oppose Victoria Kings, the bottom-placed team from Season 5, for a spot next year,” the release stated.
