A huge fire that originated in a generator room swept through the One-Stop Service Supermarket at Puruni Landing in Region Seven yesterday  morning and seven buildings were affected.

`Sky’ (only name given) who is the owner of the supermarket told Stabroek News that the fire started at approximately 8:25 am. `Sky’ explained that since his power supply is from a generator and not the Guyana Power and Light (GPL), he assumed that the wires overheated and resulted in the fire. The area was highly flammable because of the large quantity of fuel that was present on the premises. Over 40 million dollars went up in flames.
