(Trinidad Guardian) A shooting in Arima on Thursday night claimed the lives of two people, including a pregnant woman and a teenager, while two others were hurt.
The victims were identified Amy Walcott, 21, and Roshan Ali, 16, a student of the Valencia Secondary School.
The other victims were identified as 18-year-old Daniel Alibocas, who was shot in the palm of his hand and chest, and a 12-year-old boy, yet to be identified, who was shot in his mouth and hand. They are presently warded at hospital in stable conditions.
According to reports, around 9.30 pm police responded to a report of a shooting at Zone 8, Mt Zion Road, Arima. When they arrived on the scene they found Walcott on a bed inside a single-room wooden house with an apparent gunshot injury to her forehead. She showed no signs of life. Another person identified as Ali was lying on the floor and appeared to be suffering from gunshot injuries. He was taken by the EHS to the Arima Hospital.
Further information was obtained that two other people had also been shot and were already taken to the Arima Hospital. Checks by police at the hospital revealed that Alibocas and a 12-year-old were being treated for gunshot injuries. They were briefly interviewed and they told officers they were shot by a lone gunman.
District Medical Officer Dr Mendoza viewed the bodies and ordered their removal pending postmortem at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.
Visiting the scene were Insp Lewis, Sgt Joseph, PCs Seetaram, Williams and WPC Francois, of the Arima Police Station, and Sgts De Suze, Ramjohn, Cpl Gonzales and PC Ramdhanie, of Arouca Homicide Bureau Region 2.
Homicide officers are continuing investigations and an arrest is imminent.
