Basketball, football group sets up in Region Three

With the registration of the D-UP Basketball and Football Academy Friendly Society, young people in Cornelia Ida, Tuschen, and Parika on the West Coast Demerara (WCD) and East Bank Essequibo , Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), will now have access to sports training activities, a release from the Ministry of Labour said yesterday.

The Friendly Society was established yesterday  under the Friendly Societies Act, Chapter 36:04, through the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Friendly and Cooperative Societies.

According to the friendly society’s President, Anthony Kandar, basketball and football training will be prioritised in the aforementioned communities. He also said that they intend to broaden their selection of sports in the future.

He further noted that while the academy now trains about 100 students, the intention is to expand to other parts of the country.

Department Head of Co-oPs, Janaknauth Panchu, handed over the certificate of Registration to President Kandar, who was accompanied by society members Margaret Gomes,  Kamala Rameshwar, and Kwame Cato.
