The impending emergence of Aubrey Odle’s A-Pro Photography Establishment would appear all set to coincide with the surfeit of transformations that are taking place in now oil-rich Guyana and which will have to be captured for posterity. Through a combination of passion, innovation and dedication, he has already began to embrace the assignment of using his camera to record what he can of Guyana’s long-awaited transformation. His mission commenced out of the curiosity of a curious videographer obsessed with capturing what he considered to be worthwhile images. These days, his efforts have made his name a respected one in the photography industry. This, he says, is a testament to the persistence of a creative spirit.
His transformation from videography to photography was ignited by a realization of the significance of ‘stopping time.’ It was what he had been seeking and he persisted. Upon reflection, the early days of his pursuit of still photography were demanding. There was competition ‘out there,’ and accomplishments could not be realized except through ’hard graft.’ Not least of his challenges were those that had to do with financing his ambition with strictly limited resources. He would grow and earn, he thought, only if he could make a name for himself by continually sharpening his skills and using his camera to capture the sought-after moment.
Aubrey was to discover, too, that there was seasoned and shrewd competition ‘out there,’ photographers who had been ‘in the game’ for a good deal longer than he was and who understood the ‘twists and turns’ of how to succeed. Needless to say, there were, as well, the challenges associated with ‘building a business’ out of a passion. Being a professional photographer, Aubrey says, is about developing business skills to go along with your passion for photography. These days, he is satisfied that he owns and operates a business establishment that is going forward. Now on stream for the past nine years A-Pro, Aubrey says, has grown “in every way possible.”
His primary preoccupation have been with acquiring professional equipment to continually enhancing his skills. Nor, he says, has his journey been without its ‘bumps in the road’. Commitment to excellence, he says, has been his focus. “My key goal is to offer my clients work that is professional and pleasing,” he says. These days, he offers a range of photography and videography services catering to all industries. Aubrey is a member of the International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP) located in the United States through which he has been able to participate in an in-person programme that allows for professional interaction with other Photogra-phers and Photo Journalists. He is also a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography.
