It is good to see the regional authorities of Region Nine having their road maintainers ‘scraping the road’ as we say in the Guyanese language, from St Ignatius to Shulinab. Kudos to them for this great job. However, it is hoped that the same would continue down south to Aishalton and the other communities. Not only scraping the road but also fixing the bridges that are in deplorable states waiting for an accident to happen.
Additionally, now that the dry weather is on, it would be good for the relevant authorities to construct the approach road that connects the bridge at the Rupununi River. To build it very high so that it doesn’t wash away from the torrential rainfall during the rainy season. Furthermore, I would suggest there should be rails made of steel built on both sides of that bridge so that if a vehicle happens to slide off, the rails can serve as protection, especially during the rainy season.
Editor, motorists and other road users are aware that the incumbent administration is doing commendable development projects in the interior hence, we would be very contented if the government could reserve some expenditure for this venture, which would be a significant investment and relief for the people of South Rupununi.
